What's Happening at Canticle Farm? August Photos

In August 2009, the emphasis continues to be on harvesting the crops. Vegetables continue to be harvested for the Summer CSA Program, the REAP Olean Farmers' Market and the Farm Stand. Fewer vegetables are seeded, thinned, transplanted as the season progresses.

Mark uses the barrel washer to clean carrots. The barrel washer is used to clean the root crops such as carrots, potatoes and beets.

Lori thins flats of lettuce. Lettuce is seeded, thinned, transplanted and harvested all season. The goal is to have lettuce in the CSA shares every week.

A purple kohlrabi grows in the field. Many CSA shareholders are introduced to this vegetable when it is offered as part of their weekly CSA share.

Sunflowers are offered as part of the CSA shares, as a pick your own (PYO) item. The sunflowers were grown in the Reflection Area. In the distance, the Peace Pole is visible.
