What's Happening at Canticle Farm? July Photos Part 2

 

In the later part of July 2009, the emphasis shifted to harvesting the garlic crop. Vegetables continued to be harvested for the Summer CSA Program, the REAP Olean Farmers' Market and the Farm Stand. Fewer vegetables are seeded, thinned, transplanted as the season progresses.

Canticle Farm had a marvelous cauliflower crop due to the recent cool, wet weather.

Many people took time on a Saturday in late July to help Canticle Farm harvest the garlic crop.

 

 

The garlice is stacked in the barn for drying. This photo only shows half of the garlic as there are heads of garlic on the front and back of the stack.

 

 

Many people are introduced to fennel when it is offered as part of their CSA share.

 

 

Students participating in the HEOP program at St Bonaventure volunteer at Canticle Farm. For many of the students this was the first time that they saw vegetables growing in the field.

 

 

Lisa and Kris serve the ice cream at the Ice Cream Social. This has become a yearly event at Canticle Farm.
