What's Happening at Canticle Farm? October Photos

In October 2009, transplanting for 2010 vegetables continued in the high tunnels. The last of the potatoes were harvested. The potatoes will be stored in a root cellar until they are needed.  The Summer CSA Program ended and the Fall CSA Program started. Vegetables continue to be harvested for the CSA Programs, the REAP Olean Farmers' Market and the Farm Stand. Saturday, October 31st was the last REAP Olean Farmers' Market for the 2009 season. Many of the beds have been planted with cover crops for the winter, as they rest before they are used in 2010.

The winter squash harvest is stored in the green house until it is given out in the CSA shares.

Different varieties of pac choi are growing in this bed.

The goards were collected and brought down to the green house.

These flats of lettuce were seeded in September.  In October they will be transplanted in the high tunnels.

Mark covered some of the beds with row cover to protect them from the early snowfall.

In mid-October, the field was briefly covered with snow from the early storm.

Many thanks to the volunteers who helped plant the garlic in early October. A total of 7 beds of garlic were planted for the 2010 crop.
