Franciscan Shares Make a Difference in Your Community
From the very first harvest in 2001, Canticle Farm continues to focus on the area’s poor, low-income and at-risk individuals, and families through our Franciscan Food Pantry Program. We believe in helping our neighbors.
Historically, this program has donated produce to a wide variety of organizations engaged in alleviating food insecurity throughout this region of Upper Appalachia, which includes Cattaraugus and Allegany counties in New York, and McKean county in Pennsylvania.
Each year, Canticle Farm works to fund and donate 20% of our annual summer bounty to the region's food pantries, homeless shelters, hot meal and community assistance programs, directly connecting with those who lack access to local, fresh, naturally grown, healthy food. This amounts to approximately 8,000 pounds of vegetables each year!

In 2020, donations of $29,304 enabled Canticle Farm to provide a total of 36 large summer shares to 7 organizations each week during the 17-week summer season. This enabled approximately 180 individuals to enjoy nutritious produce every week that they would not have been able to afford otherwise.
The mission of being in a relationship with the Earth and each other is important. A contribution to the Franciscan Food Pantry Program makes a significant difference to accessibility to fresh produce. A summer share costs $575. A gift of any size brings us closer to offering the bounty of the Earth, the fullness of our labor, and the gift of attentiveness to those most in need in our surrounding communities.
Realizing that Canticle Farm must purchase seed, soil amendments, equipment, as well as pay a just wage, these designated shares must be fully funded. To pay for the expenses to grow the donated produce, Canticle Farm annually applies for grants and seeks donations from religious groups and societies, local organizations, individuals and friends of the farm to sponsor these shares.
Your donation to this vital community outreach program allows Canticle Farm to pay it forward by providing nutritious vegetables to those who can least afford them, yet need it most — our local community’s hungry children, families and individuals.
